Franklin Pierce Lake Suggested Wake and Speed Zones

Please Join Us in Protecting Our Beautiful Shoreline!

Together we can protect our shoreline for generations to come — it starts with checking your wake.

Franklin Pierce Lake is a gem we all share, and together we can keep it that way for years to come.  The FPLA has developed these suggested wake and speed zones to protect the shoreline from erosion while making sure everyone can enjoy a safe and wonderful experience on the water.  This map will help boaters navigate to the most appropriate areas based upon wake size, speed, depth of the water, and distance from shore.  A little mindfulness goes a long way -- Thank you for being a great neighbor and helping us protect our lake!

RED AREA

NO WAKE TO LESS THAN A 6" WAKE

Approximately 300 feet (roughly the length of a football field) from shore, with water depths less than 12 feet. These shallow nearshore areas are most vulnerable to erosion.  Remember that going slow doesn’t mean there is a small wake.  LOOK BEHIND YOU and please slow to headway speed to avoid generating any wake - the shoreline will appreciate it.

YELLOW AREA

MORE THAN 6" BUT NO MORE THAN 12" WAKE

300 - 600 feet from shore (one to two football fields), in water 12 to 24 feet deep. A moderate wake, suitable for water skiing, jet skiing, and cruising at any reasonable speed is fine in this area.  Keep your wake below 12” and everyone wins.

GREEN AREA

ANY WAKE OF ANY SIZE

The open, deep center of the lake, more than 20 feet deep and well away from shore.  This is your playground!  Wake boats, tubing, and making hard turns creating wakes of any size is acceptable.  ENJOY!!
